Barcelona secured a fortunate 2-1 win at Celta Vigo in LaLiga on Saturday, thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s penalty deep into added time.
Despite an uninspired performance, Lewandowski’s moment of brilliance just before halftime gave Barcelona the lead. Lamine Yamal provided the assist, and Lewandowski’s powerful strike found the net.
Facing pressure in 17th place, just three points above the relegation zone, Rafa Benitez’s side fought back to level the score in the 47th minute, with Iago Aspas scoring a deflected strike. The raucous Galician stadium intensified the atmosphere as Celta Vigo pushed for victory.
Aspas missed three clear chances, but a defensive mistake by Fran Beltran in the 93rd minute, hitting Yamal’s leg, led to a penalty for Lewandowski.
Although Guaita saved the first attempt, a VAR check revealed an infringement, allowing Lewandowski to convert the second effort. Barcelona sits third in the standings with 54 points, trailing Girona by two and leaders Real Madrid by seven, both having a game in hand.
Reflecting on the match, Lewandowski acknowledged the team’s luck in their goal and the need for improvement in the second half. Despite the challenges, he expressed happiness with the crucial win and emphasized the importance of focusing on the upcoming Champions League campaign.
