Manchester United has received a positive development in the transfer arena, as Joao Neves reмains ambiguous about his future at Benfica.
The 19-year-old midfielder, considered a promising talent, holds a buyout clause of £103 million (€120 million). Reports suggest that Manchester United has initiated talks with Neves regarding a potential summer transfer.
When questioned about his plans to stay at Benfica, Neves refrained from providing a direct response. During a press conference leading up to Benfica’s Europa League match against Toulouse, Neves stated, “I promise to give my best in every training session and every game, which I believe is one of my greatest qualities. I am focused on Benfica, especially on [Thursday’s] game, which is the next one. I intend to give my best in every match and training session.”
A product of Benfica’s academy, Neves has accumulated 55 senior appearances for the club since making his debut in December 2022.
Manchester United could be in for a significant summer in the transfer market as Erik ten Hag’s team aims to enhance its fortunes. An agreement with Newcastle for the appointment of Dan Ashworth as the new sporting director is anticipated next week. Additionally, the approval of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment, securing a 25 percent stake in United, has been granted by the FA.
United defender Harry Maguire commended Ratcliffe for bringing “fresh energy” to the club. The INEOS CEO recently addressed the United players at the training ground, with Maguire expressing confidence in Ratcliffe’s positive impact on the club’s success. Maguire told Sky Sports, “I’m sure he’s going to have a positive impact on this club… I want this club to be successful, and I’m sure he’s going to play a big part in getting this club back to where it should be. The lads came out of the meeting with Ratcliffe really impressed with how he spoke, giving us great motivation to figҺt for the club and this badge and to stay on this journey.
