Liverpool will be without Trent Alexander-Arnold for their upcoming five matches, including the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea, as he faces a recurrence of a knee i𝚗jury.
The 25-year-old, who experienced pɑin and was substituted at halftime against Burnley, had already missed most of January due to ligament damage in the same knee.
Although no specific timeline has been provided for his return, it is unlikely he will be ready for the Wembley final on February 25. The Premier League clɑsh with Manchester City on March 10 is considered a more realistic target, with the Merseyside derby against Everton the following weekend.
England manager Gareth Southgate is also awaiting updates, as the next national squad announcement for matches against Brazil and Belgium is scheduled for mid-March. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is facing uncertainties over Dominik Szoboszlai and Thiago Alcantara’s availability for the final, while Joel Matip is confirmed to be ruled out.
For Liverpool’s next Premier League game against Brentford on Saturday, Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez are expected to compete for Alexander-Arnold’s right-back position. Meanwhile, Mo Salah has returned to training after a hamstring i𝚗jury suffered during the African Cup of Nations.
Despite Alexander-Arnold’s return to action on January 27, fears arose when he failed to resume play in the second half against Burnley. Klopp confirmed after the match that the player felt discomfort in the same knee and got it stuck in the grass.
Following the Brentford match, Liverpool will face Luton in the Premier League at home before the Carabao Cup final. They also have an FA Cup fifth-round tie at home against Southampton at the end of the month and start March with an away game against Nottingham Forest.
