Barcelona, once considered strong favorites to secure the signing of Lucas Bergvall, have now lost the race to acquire the highly-regarded Swedish teenager. Bergvall has chosen to join Tottenham Hotspur over the Catalans.

Earlier this week, Barcelona had their offer for Bergvall accepted by Djurgardens, leading to discussions between the player and Deco.

 However, Spurs intervened with a late offer, which was also accepted, and subsequent talks took place in recent days.

Despite initial confidence within Barcelona, it turns out to be misplaced, with reports from David Ornstein confirming that Spurs have successfully secured the young midfielder.

Barcelona is likely to feel a sense of bitter disappointment at failing to sign Bergvall. Despite their earnest efforts, uncertainties at the club following Xavi Hernandez’s resignation announcement reportedly played a significant role in Bergvall’s decision to opt for North London over Catalonia, marking his move to Tottenham in the upcoming summer.
