Fanni Gecsek, Dominik Szoboszlai’s girlfriend, expressed admiration for the midfielder’s performance during his Premier League debut for Liverpool against Chelsea on Sunday, August 13.
The 22-year-old Szoboszlai joined Anfield this summer in a £60 million transfer from RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, securing a five-year contract. Liverpool outbid competitors, including Newcastle United, by activating his release clause.
Competing in Jurgen Klopp’s team as a versatile midfielder, Szoboszlai played on the right side of a three-man midfield during his competitive debut on Sunday. Despite not contributing to a goal in the 1-1 draw, he made three key passes, the most in the game.
Fanni Geksek, his girlfriend, shared her reaction to Szoboszlai’s Instagram post after his debut:
Liverpool faced a challenging match in their 2023-24 Premier League opener against Chelsea.
The visitors took the lead with Luis Diaz converting a pass from Mohammed Salah in the 18th minute. Salah, aiming to double the lead ten minutes later, had his effort disallowed for offside.
This potential goal would have marked Salah’s seventh consecutive scoring game in a Premier League opener, surpassing Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney, and Frank Lampard (eight goals) for the most goals on the opening day of the competition.
Chelsea responded, with new signing Axel Disasi scoring from a cross by defensive partner Ben Chilwell to equalize eight minutes before halftime. Chilwell also found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
In the goalless second half, both teams had opportunities to score the winner, with Chelsea finishing stronger. However, there was no separation at full time, resulting in the fifth consecutive draw between the two Premier League giants.
Liverpool is set to host Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday, August 19, while Chelsea will travel to West Ham United the following day.
