Outcast at Manchester United, Mason Greenwood shines for Getafe, scoring in a 2-0 victory over Granada in La Liga on Monday night.

Greenwood left Old Trafford on loan last summer after agreeing with the club that it would be best for him to start afresh elsewhere in his career following an arrest in January 2022 on suspicion of several charges, including attempted rɑpe.

In February 2023, the Crown Prosecution Service dropped the charges. However, Greenwood was sent on loan to Getafe, where he has had a promising start.

He netted the opening goal of the game on Monday, marking his fourth league goal of the season with a clever finish near the post.

Cutting inside on his left foot, Greenwood clipped a shot from just inside the area that caught Augusto Batalla off guard and nestled into the corner of the net.

Greenwood turned and ran to the corner flag to celebrate with his teammates after setting up a simple win for his team.

His 21st-minute goal put Getafe in charge, and 15 minutes later, Borja Mayoral scored another goal to make it 2-0.

Getafe won the game without much trouble and remɑins in 10th place. On the other hand, Granada is still in the relegation zone and is six points behind safety.

Greenwood’s loan deal at Getafe ends this summer, and his contract with United concludes in June 2025.

However, it is reported that the 22-year-old player wants to stay in Spain and has informed his agents that a £40m move to Barcelona would be his dream transfer.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also thought to be keeping an eye on Greenwood’s progress at Getafe as they contemplate making an offer for the striker.
