According to reports, Manchester United is seeking to secure Scott McTominay with a new, extended contract.

The Scottish player has been linked with a potential move away from the club, with West Ham expressing interest and engaging in talks with Manchester United over a summer deal.

Despite ongoing transfer speculations, a move did not materialize, and McTominay has showcased impressive performances at Old Trafford this season, scoring five goals in 18 Premier League games, including notable contributions against Brentford and Chelsea.

While he has often served as a substitute in 12 out of his 18 league appearances this season, McTominay’s role within the team is becoming more defined as Erik ten Hag positions him in more advanced areas.

Sources suggest that Ten Hag holds positive sentiments towards McTominay, considering the player an integral part of the club’s future plans. Manchester United aims to extend his contract for an additional year.

Since making his debut for the team at the age of 20 near the end of the 2016–17 season, McTominay has amassed 233 appearances for United, playing under six managers, including interim coaches Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick.

Despite not consistently securing a starting position over the years, McTominay, a product of the United academy, has proven to be good value for money and has remained loyal to the club. In December, during a challenging period for the team, the 27-year-old publicly supported his manager, referring to him as “great” after a 0-0 draw with Liverpool at Anfield.

There have been rumors that McTominay, who reportedly earns ÂŁ60,000 a week, might opt not to sign the new deal. However, recent reports suggest that both McTominay and Harry Maguire are now considered crucial to the club’s plans, particularly after being on the verge of leaving in the summer when Sir Jim Ratcliffe aimed to bring in more British players.

Maguire, who has recently returned to training after a brief illness, appears to have reclaimed a starting spot in the team after falling behind due to losing the captaincy.
