Pedri plays a crucial role in FC Barcelona’s new sports project. In an interview for an advertising campaign by the technology company TCL, the midfielder openly expressed his admiration for his idols, Andrés Iniesta and Leo Messi.
Pedro Gonzálеz López, known as ‘Pedri,’ stands out as one of the most talented players in the new generation of Spanish footballers. At just 19 years old, the Tenerife native has been a consistent starter for FC Barcelona and the Spanish National Team for over a year. Recognized as a football standout, the tech company TCL selected the midfielder as the ‘boy of gold’ for their campaign, “Inspire Greatness.”
In addition to Pedri, the Chinese multinational completed its quartet of featured players with Raphaël Varane, the defender for Manchester United and the French national team; Phil Foden, the forward for Manchester City and the English national team; and Rodrygo Goes, the leading Brazilian player for Real Madrid. All of them are set to participate in the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, and TCL aims to promote its new product line during the tournament, leveraging the players’ images.
During the campaign launch, Pedri took the opportunity to discuss his football role models, emphasizing once again that Andrés Iniesta is his main idol. “He is a player I loved watching, although I can sɑy the same about all the players in the squad who won all the titles and made people happy. I loved watching them all play,” commented the 19-year-old player.
Moreover, the Barcelona midfielder highlighted the significance of the ‘DNA Barça’ in his career. “Playing for FC Barcelona means everything to me. It is the club of my dreams, where I always wɑnted to be. Every day is special, just being able to go to training at the sports city and enjoy what I do in this shirt is a dream,” expressed the midfielder who joined the club in 2019 from UD Las Palmas.
Pedri faced the timeless question: Messi or Cristiano? While acknowledging Cristiano Ronaldo’s incredible abilities, Pedri made it clear that, in his opinion, Messi is the more complete player. “Cristiano is an incredible player. It’s a spectacle to see him score so many goals, but for me, Messi is more complete. He is a player who has everything. I stick with Leo Messi,” stated the midfielder.
Having shared his first season at Barça with the Argentinian star, Pedri humbly addressed comparisons, emphasizing the uniqueness of Messi’s skills and achievements. “Comparisons with him? There are many who need to work tirelessly just to try to do something resembling what he consistently did. Messi is unique, and I think it’s impossible to even attempt to equalize all that he has achieved here,” concluded Pedri.
